The Riemann hypothesis: history and probabilities (Jhih-Huang, University of Geneva, Switzerland)

19.02.2018 17:00 – 18:00

In 1973, Montgomery and Dyson observed that the non-trivial zeroes of the Riemann zeta function share some similar properties with the eigenvalues of (huge) random matrices. In this talk, I will tell you how, historically, mathematicians looked for these zeroes, how they are linked to random matrices, providing motivations from physics, and finally, state a few conjectures.
