Thermalization from the vacuum block
01.11.2018 14:00 – 15:00
The universal nature of black hole collapse in asymptotic AdS3 gravity theories suggests that its holographic dual process, thermalization, should similarly be fixed by some of the universal features of 2d CFT with large central charge. In this talk I will demonstrate that the uniformization method to obtain conformal blocks shows that probe operators evaluated on generic high-energy non-equilibrium states will approach thermal expectation values, as long as the solutions to ODEs construced out of the energy density of the non-equilibrium state satisfy certain monodromy properties. Secondly I will show that if we think of the Virasoro conserved charges of the non-equilibrium state as equation of state variables, that a combination of the properties of periodic differential equations combined with Virasoro representation theory ensures that there should exist a phase transition in the CFT mirroring black hole formation in the bulk.
