MMP and Fano varieties, the work of Caucher Birkar (Jérémy Blanc, Univ Basel)

In this talk, I will try to present some part of the work of Caucher Birkar on the minimal model program and Fano varieties. These concern algebraic geometry, a part of mathematics that studies geometry with algebraic tools. The minimal model program (MMP) studies algebraic varieties by reducing the work to simple varieties, elementary blocks of the birational geometry.
