Lunch Seminar: ABC and Fermat’s Last Theorem (Anders Karlsson, University of Geneva)

I will explain elementary statements (conjectural or proven) about the equation A+B=C and show how they imply Fermat’s last theorem for integers and for polynomials (fitting in the margin of Arithmetica or a 15-minute talk).
For polynomials the statement is due to Mason-Stothers, for numbers it was conjectured by Masser-Oesterlé and here the story is more complicated…
