An invitation to surface operators in the 6d (2,0) theory

07.09.2022 14:00 – 15:30

I will present the results of work undertaken over the past few years on gaining better insight into the most natural observables of the nonperturbative 6d CFT with N=(2,0) supersymmetry. In many ways they are similar to Wilson loops, but as the theory has no lagrangian description, are much harder to study. We used techniques from supersymmetry, AdS/CFT, the conformal bootstrap and more to analyze them. We find a rich structure of BPS operators, whose anomalies we can control and in some cases conjecture exact expectation values of the operators in theories with arbitrary rank.
