Scientific Discovery in the era of AI

27.09.2024 09:00 – 10:30

New technologies can have a catalytic effect on scientific progress. AI is one such tool with transformative potential for scientific discovery. It is causing us to rethink fundamental concepts of data simulation, reconstruction and analysis approaches, scientific interpretation and design aspects for future experiments. CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is one of the most ambitious scientific projects ever undertaken by humankind. The complexity and volume of its data make it an ideal testing ground for AI applications. The talk will show concrete ways in which the scientific benefits of an experiment like ATLAS can be maximized with the help of AI.
