Why dimension 4 is great ( or terrible )

Some of the most intriguing phenomena in topology have to do with dimension 4 behaving differently than others. Looking at the examples of the Generazed Poincaré Conjecture and the existence of exotic R^4 ‘s, I will try to give a decription of some of this strangeness and an idea of what might go wrong in the specific case n=4.
