An introduction to Euler calculus

13.05.2019 17:00

Euler calculus finds its origins in the 80s. It is an integration theory based on the Euler characteristic: when one integrates the characteristic function of a subset A of R^n, one recovers the Euler characteristic of said subset. We will first describe the theory of Euler calculus, how it can be turned in (almost) a measure and then describe some applications. A result from Curry, Mukherjee and Turner shows that one can recover a shape from the Euler characteristic of its sublevel sets in all direction, using Euler calculus.
