The Future of AI and what it means for research in fundamental science

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has seen an extraordinary growth over the past decade. We review the biggest open questions in AI and look at the likely evolution of the field over the next five years and what that means for how we conceptualise, undertake and publish fundamental research, highlighting the interplay and competition between highly niche but rigorous Bayesian methods and large generalist AI models.
