Livestreamed Launch Event - The 1949 Geneva Conventions: A Commentary

04.12.2015 12:30 – 14:30

How should the Geneva Conventions be interpreted today? How are they applied in armed conflicts? How do the Geneva Conventions interplay with other fields of international law like international human rights law and international criminal law?
In a new book prepared under the auspices of the Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights and edited by Professors Andrew Clapham, Paola Gaeta, and Marco Sassòli, over sixty international law experts investigate the application of the Geneva Conventions and explain how they should be interpreted today.

Besides the three editors, several Academy’s professors, former professors, former students, researchers and teaching assistants have contributed to this groundbreaking commentary: Annyssa Bellal, Stuart Casey-Maslen, Vincent Chetail, Giovanni Distefano, Louise Doswald-Beck, Daniela Gavshon, Gilles Giacca, Anne-Laurence Graf-Brugère, Julia Grignon, Tom Haeck, Iris van der Heijden, Jerome de Hemptinne, Annie Hylton, Robert Kolb, Marko Milanovic, Nishat Nishat, Ilya Nuzov, Yves Sandoz, Katja Schöberl, David Tuck, Gabriella Venturini and Sharon Weill.
