Controlled Floyd Separation and a Non-Relatively Hyperbolic Group (Shubhabrata Das, Presidency University Kolkata)

07.06.2016 10:30

In this lecture we will introduce the notion of controlled Floyd separation between geodesic rays starting at identity in the Cayley graph of a finitely generated group. Two such geodesic rays are said to be Floyd separated with respect to quasi geodesics if the Floyd length of c-quasi geodesics (for fixed but arbitrary c>0) joining points on the geodesic rays is asymptotically bounded away from zero.

We will construct an example of a group which is not hyperbolic relative to any collection of proper subgroups but has an uncountable family of geodesic rays that are Floyd separated with respect to quasi geodesics.
This is a joint work with Mahan Mj.
