How do International Organisations speak?

Comment « parlent » les organisations internationales (OI) ? Et comment les chercheur-e-s en sciences sociales peuvent-ils/elles étudier ce langage ?
Cette journée d’étude fera le point sur le projet de recherche IO-Langage (« Building distant reading tools to analyse the language of international organisations ») débuté en 2016 dans le cadre du réseau thématique langage et communication de l’Université de Genève. Nous nous concentrerons en particulier sur le discours des OI relatifs à la gouvernance de l’environnement et de l’économie, en présentant nos premiers résultats de recherche et en faisant intervenir différents spécialistes, internes et externes, de l’étude du discours des OI.

How do International Organisations (IO) speak ? How can we, as social scientists, study such language?
This workshop will take stock of the research project IO-Langage (« Building distant reading tools to analyse the language of international organisations ») launched in 2016 within the network « language and communication » of the University of Geneva. We will focus especially on the discourse of OI at the intersection of environmental and economic governance. We will discuss the first results of the IO-Langage research projects, as well as different inputs by specialists of the analysis of IO discourses.
