Loop groups and symplectic quotients : Part II (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign)

In todays talk, which is based on joint work with Bott and Weitsman, I will prove that Kirwan's theorems also hold for $LG$ actions. As an example, I will give a new derivation of the Betti numbers ofthe moduli space of flat $SU(2)$ bundles over a Reimann surface. Time permitting, I will discuss some open problems.
