Title: Understanding Correlated Insulators - Moiré-Wigner-Mott crystals in WS2/WSe2

Abstract:
Most quantum matter can be understood with the paradigm of Fermi liquid theory and symmetry breaking. A notable exception is the phenomenon of Mott insulators and the strange metals obtained upon doping them. I will give a simple example of a Mott insulator and the theoretical challenges that come with it. The recent developments in (twisted) Van der Waals heterostructures promises a better understanding of correlated insulators. In particular, I will discuss recent work on Moiré-Wigner-Mott crystals in WS2/WSe2 heterostructures.
