Simulation of Gravitational Microlensing (Mikhail Pirogov, University of Geneva)

08.12.2021 17:00

NOTE : the talk has been moved to the following week !

Galaxies can bend the light emitted by a distant source with the gravitational field. Therefore, we sometimes see several images of the same physical object. Individual stars in the lensing galaxy may split those images again into thousands of tiny parts — this phenomenon is called microlensing. I will talk about the computational modeling of microlensing by tracing rays and solving nonlinear algebraic equations.
