Why bands in ARPES are not always what they seem

A recent ARPES study on surface doped black phosphorus reported funny non-monotonous k(E) dispersions near the chemical potential [1]. I will discuss this paper and show that dispersive “band-like” features in ARPES do not always imply Bloch states. If time permits, I will try to make links to recent work on disordered moiré super lattices.
