CP violation, an EFT point of view

I will start by discussing the collective breaking structure of CP violation in the SM supplemented by higher dimensional effective interactions and I’ll present a basis of Jarlskog-like flavour invariants. Then I will show how small instantons—introduced to increase the axion mass by an appropriate modification of QCD at a UV scale—can also enhance the effect of CP-violating operators to shift the axion potential minimum by an amount proportional to the flavorful couplings in the SMEFT, hence putting some constraints on BSM CP-violating sources.
