Many-body theory of altermagnetism
20.01.2026 13:00 – 14:00
Altermagnets have recently been in the focus as an exciting new branch of quantum magnetism. As much as they promise new spintronic material platforms prone to magnetic signal processing and transmission, they have also revitalised the interest in the interplay of quantum magnetism and affiliated crystal degrees of freedom such as orbitals, sublattices, and beyond. While the current theoretical status quo on altermagnetism has predominantly evolved out of a symmetry classification of magnetic mean field Hamiltonians, it is important to reconcile it from an unbiased, microscopic many-body genesis of magnetism. In my talk, I will highlight some contemporary research threads on the many-body nature of altermagnetism, and how this investigation might be able to more proficiently inform us on suitable altermagnetic material candidates
