Spectral theory of functional difference operators (Lukas SCHIMMER, Loughborough University)

27.02.2026 14:00

Functional difference operators arise naturally in several areas of mathematical physics. As differential operators of “infinite order”, they push classical spectral methods to their limits. In this talk, I will give an overview of some of these techniques, notably the Birman–Schwinger principle, and present recent results establishing Lieb–Thirring-type bounds for the discrete spectrum of such operators. I will also discuss the emergence of resonances in a particular case.
