Fixing Generalized Event Shapes from Conformal Symmetry

12.03.2026 14:00 – 15:00

Particle accelerator experiments measure the energy deposited in a calorimeter and the correlations between energy deposits at different locations. In quantum field theory, we can construct collider-like observables by studying correlation functions of local operators integrated along their lightcones, known as light-ray operators. Recently, these operators have been generalized through a one-parameter deformation that probes longitudinal structure. These ω-deformed light-ray operators are defined as the Fourier transform of a local operator along its lightcone.

In conformal field theory, symmetry alone fixes the form of the one-point function of such an operator in a background state. I will show how to explicitly construct these correlation functions in embedding space using weight-shifting operators.
