Supra-maximal representations from the fundamental group of a punctured sphere to PSL(2,R) (Bertrand Deroin, ENS Paris)

I will discuss a joined work with Nicolas Tholozan, aiming at studying a new class of representations from fundamental groups of punctured spheres to the group PSL(2,R), that we call supra-maximal. One of their main interest is that simple closed curves are mapped to elliptic or parabolic transformations. As an interesting application we deduce that supra-maximal representations form compact components in relative character varieties, that are symplectomorphic to complex projective spaces, as were experimentally observed by Benedetto and Goldman in the case of a fourth-punctured sphere.
