Free subsemigroups in automata semigroups (Dominik Francoeur, UNIGE)

25.09.2018 10:30

Groups and semigroups generated by Mealy automata have attracted a lot of attention since their introduction, partly because they can possess some rather exotic properties, such as being infinite, finitely generated and torsion or being of intermediate growth. It is natural to ask how the properties of an automaton influence the algebraic properties of the (semi)group that it generates. In this talk, we will investigate one such connection, namely the link between the reversibility of the automaton and the existence of free non-abelian subsemigroups.
This is joint work with Ivan Mitrofanov.
