Vaccine Hesitancy: Why it Matters in the Era of Fake News and Alternative Facts

15.01.2019 18:15 – 19:30

Vaccine hesitancy is now recognized as a threat to effective vaccination programs in Canada and around the world. This presentation will describe vaccine hesitancy and its potential causes and consequences. Using results of different studies conducted in Canada, I will present current issues around vaccine hesitancy, looking at both the general public and healthcare providers. More broadly, this presentation will address the role of social scientists in public health and the value of “evidence” in an era of fake news and alternative facts.
