Facial mimicry – its role, neural correlates, and modulation
My work focuses on facial mimicry, and more specifically on the fast, spontaneous, subtle, and unconscious contraction of facial muscles reflecting other people’s facial expressions. I will describe a series of experiments (conducted using facial EMG, TMS, fMRI, and pharmacology) to investigate the neural correlates of facial mimicry, its effects on the processing of emotional faces, and its modulation by situational, neural and neurochemical factors.
