Log-Sobolev inequalities for some strongly correlated spin systems (Roland Bauerschmidt, Cambridge)

27.05.2019 15:15 – 16:15

Spectacular advances have been made in the understooding of the static behaviour of classical spin systems, but their Glauber and Kawasaki dynamics still pose a significant challenge. One way to understand this behaviour (in the reversible case) is through functional inequalities like the spectral gap and the Log-Sobolev constant, but these are known to be difficult to obtain in the presence of strong correlations like critical spin systems or in phases of broken continuous symmetry, and most of the methods useful for the static problem break down. I will present a renormalisation group approach to this problem with examples. This is joint work with Thierry Bodineau.
