The bounded cohomology of some homeomorphism groups (Nicolas Monod, EPFL)

The cohomology of homeomorphisms groups of manifolds is a classical, richand well-studied topic.
By contrast, very little is known about the bounded cohomology of these groups, even though boundedness appears naturally and plays an important role in some applications.
In joint work with Sam Nariman, we completely determine the bounded cohomology of Homeo(M) when M is the circle, the line and the disc.
I will describe the new tools that we introduce to obtain these results.
