On the dimension formula of Vaughan Jones for some representations of PSL(2,Z) and automorphic forms (Florin Radulescu, Université Tor Vergata, Rome)

The formula of Vaughan Jones computes the von Neumann dimension of the restriction to a lattice of a discrete series unitary representation of a semisimple Lie group.
It is a variant of a formula of Atiyah and Schmid for the formal dimensions of the discrete series in the Harish-Chandra trace formula.
When the Lie group is PSL(2,R) and the lattice PSL(2,Z), the formula is surprisingly similar to a formula for the dimension of some space of automorphic forms.
We will discuss an extension of this to the case of PSL(2,Qp).
