Numerical invariants for measurable cocycles (Filippo Sarti, Université de Bologne)

The theory of numerical invariants for representations can be implemented in order to define the volume of representations and to provide an alternative proof of Mostow rigidity. In this seminar we will describe how this machinery can be suitably extended to measurable cocycles, a family of more general objects that involve dynamics and ergodic theory. We will discuss the key difficulties that one has to overcome to extend the definition, such as the existence of boundary maps. Time permitting, I will present a superrigidity result for cocycles from complex hyperbolic lattices into the Hermitian group SU(p, q), that is a joint work with A. Savini.
