Lower central series of some groups acting on rooted trees (Marialaura Noce, Università Salento)

28.03.2023 10:30

A rapidly developing area of group theory studies the properties of branch groups, a special kind of groups acting on rooted trees. An important motivation for studying branch groups comes from the remarkable properties that some of these groups can possess, like intermediate growth, amenability, the congruence subgroup property, or providing a negative answer to the General Burnside Problem. Among other properties, some research in the last decade has been done regarding the lower central series of subgroups of the group of automorphisms acting on rooted trees.
In this talk, we first survey some known results about the lower central series in first Grigorchuk group, the Gupta-Sidki 3-group, and the Fabrykowski-Gupta group, and then we present new results and some open problems.
