Digital Media and Heritage Tourism: a Map

Digital Media and Heritage Tourism: a Map

13.06.2023 18:15 – 19:45

The presentation will explore the overlapping area between digital media, tourism and heritage, providing a map of it: the ‘ABCDE’ framework.
Such framework, which has been presented in the Handbook on Heritage, Sustainable Tourism and Digital Media (https://doi.org/10.4337/9781788970082) indicates five main areas of interaction: Access, Better, Connect, Dis-intermediate and Educate. Such dimensions will be presented through several cases and projects, highlighting related opportunities as well as challenges. In particular, the cases of #iWareBatik and “Machu Picchu Seen through the eyes of Fernando Astete” will be introduced and discussed.

Lorenzo Cantoni graduated in Philosophy and holds a PhD in Education and Linguistics. He is full professor at USI – Università della Svizzera italiana (Lugano, Switzerland), Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society, where he is director of the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication. He is also board member of WHES – World Heritage Experience Switzerland and director of the Master in International Tourism; he has been also President of IFITT – International Federation for IT in Travel and Tourism (2014- 2018).
