Charting the rich phenomenology of novel 2D and 1D materials
Nicola Marzari (EPFL/PSI)

I will illustrate the paradigm of computational materials discovery, as applied to the case of two-dimensional and one-dimensional materials.
First, a high-throughput study of experimentally-known inorganic compounds identifies promising candidates that could be exfoliated from bulk parent compounds. This is followed by an in-depth analysis of the most promising materials for properties and perfromance, looking at novel topological insulators, superconductors, high-mobility semiconductors, magentic materials, and metallic wires, to name a few.
