“The World Mosquito Program: a new tool for the control of Aedes transmitted arboviruses like dengue.”

The World Mosquito Program (WMP) encompasses a group of not-for-profit companies wholly owned by Monash University, Australia with the sole purpose of scaling the deployment of its Wolbachia technology for arboviral disease prevention. I will describe the Wolbachia technology that WMP uses, how it differs from other Wolbachia or GM mosquito-based approaches and the evidence for the impact it is having in countries around the world. In addition, I will describe the forward technology pipeline for WMP and how we work with governments and communities to scale this technology and make it available to the greatest number of people in need in the shortest time.

“Transforming Global/Public Health: The Impact of the World Mosquito Program on Dengue Control in Colombia”

"In a joint project between the World Mosquito Program and the University of Antioquia, the release of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes cultured in the laboratory with the Wolbachia bacteria was carried out for the biological control of dengue in the cities of Bello, Medellín and Itagüí, where 3.5 million inhabitants live.

The public acceptance model created by the WMP was used and the acceptance of the release of mosquitoes by the general population was 97%.
The releases ended in October 2020 and since then the reduction in the number of dengue cases has been greater than 95%."
