Meet the Newbies: From Global Health to Cancer Research
26.09.2025 11:45 – 13:45
The overall goal of this session is to introduce two researchers who are new to the ISG community: Prof. Liz Turner, visiting ISG from the Duke Global Health Institute (Duke University, USA) and Prof. Marc Ryser, newest faculty member of ISG and Director of the Geneva Cancer Registry.
Design and Analysis of Global Health Trials
Prof. Liz Turner, PhD
Drawing on more than fifteen years of experience in the design and analysis of global health trials, Liz will share an overview of her research in the field of global health trials. This will include perspectives from her statistical experiences in trials in malaria, global mental health and cardiovascular research, with a focus on cluster randomized trial designs.
Multiscale Approaches to Cancer Early Detection
Prof. Marc Ryser, PhD
Marc leads a research program focused on improving cancer early detection, with emphasis on breast cancer overdiagnosis and overtreatment. Trained as a physicist and mathematician, he develops models that integrate biological, clinical, and population data to quantify the harms of screening and identify strategies to reduce unnecessary treatment. This cross-disciplinary work, conducted with clinicians, biologists, and epidemiologists, seeks to generate evidence for more individualized screening and treatment approaches.
