Prof. R. Vasseur: The dynamics and phases of quantum information

02.12.2025 18:00 – 19:00

Many-body quantum physics has traditionally focused on the properties of cold matter in thermal equilibrium. However, emerging programmable quantum processors now allow exploration of far-from-equilibrium dynamics, with local space- and time-resolved control over interactions. In this new era of “interactive quantum matter” in which repeated measurements and feedback are used to stabilize quantum information against noise, a key challenge is to understand the dynamics and 'phases' of quantum information in many-body systems. In this talk, I will review recent progress in understanding such new quantum information-theoretic phases of matter, using a characterization in terms of whether an adversarial eavesdropper can learn the state of the system. I will also highlight unexpected connections between quantum entanglement, quantum communication theory and classical statistical physics.
