Exciton-polaritons in vdW magnets

The interplay of magnetism, excitons, and light can give rise to coherent hybrid excitations whose properties are collectively controlled by all three degrees of freedom. Van der Waals magnetic semiconductors such as CrSBr realize this interplay in a naturally self-hybridized polariton system where magnons leave coherent oscillatory signatures on the optical response [1]. I will show that these same magnons mediate tunable nonlinear interactions between excitons, offering a magnetically reconfigurable knob for optical nonlinearity [2]. Microwave spectroscopy measurements probing the spin-wave spectrum round out the picture and motivate CrSBr as a candidate platform for coherent microwave-to-optical quantum state transduction [3].
