On a linear algebra conjecture in the theory of orthogonal polynomials (Walter Gautschi, Purdue University, USA)

The conjecture deals with the zeros xj of an orthogonal polynomial of arbitrary degree n>=1 relative to an arbitrary positive weight function and with certain matrices of order n defined by these zeros. The claim is that all eigenvalues of these matrices are located in the open right half of the complex plane. Substantial evidence will be provided for the validity of the conjecture.
